At first glance, you would think its real fish swimming peacefully in a little tank. Sometimes looks be deceiving, as they say. Now look again closely because it’s not.

Complementary Colors

This post is a follow up to my previous post— Color Wheel. A post about complements or complementary colors.

Complementary Colors

If when you mixed two colors in equal amounts together and the resulting color is a neutral gray, these two colors are complementary to each other. Previously we've learned that the complement to a primary color is a secondary color (two primary colors combined).

Fig. 1: Any 2 colors mixed together that create a neutral gray are called complementary colors

For example, the complement of red is green, which is a mixture of yellow and blue. The other complements to the primary colors are: purple complements yellow and orange complements blue.

How To Use Grid Lines as Drawing Tool?

Have you tried using a grid as drawing tool for enlarging a picture? If not, well let me share it why you should. It can be very helpful because it allows you to focus on one block of the picture at a time. So why pay for those expensive grid drawing tutorials when you can learn the same technique on your own for free. I learned using a grid for drawing when I was in grade school and till now it is the easiest technique I’m getting use to. From simple to delicate project, grid drawing can be used for almost any project and it is easy for the beginner to try.

I will teach you how to use grid as a tool for drawing on this post. But first, we have to prepare the following materials:

and of course, our reference picture.

Step 1: Draw a grid on the reference picture. (I’m using 1cm is to 1.5 inches ratio (ratio: 1 cm : 1.5 in) for that reason, reference picture will be scaled 1 centimeter per line distance.)

Color Wheel

Figure 1: The Color Wheel
In developing an artwork, artist sometimes use color theory . To get consistent results, the color wheel is used in color theory as a way of arranging colors so that artists can use the information in a systematic way .

Allow this post to tell you the very basic introduction to color theory and the color wheel. There are many types of color theories out there and they each serve a different purpose and medium, but let us focus on what is useful for those who paint and draw.

As shown in Figure 1, the color wheel is arranged in a way where colors similar to each other sit next to each other on the wheel. We will tackle this later on.

Welcome to The Hand-Drawn Blog

Hand-Drawn - A cachet applied to a cover by hand with pen, pencil, brush, chalk or other art media. Done by hand, as to speak. Mostly a line art.

Every masterpiece starts with a single stroke of line and every stroke done my an artist creates a masterpiece.

The question is how to know your skills in this field of art? How to draw or even how to start drawing?

Though there's a lot of online drawing lessons now. And aside from that, some offers free drawing software hence you will gather a lot of information and be trained from it. But is it much okay if there's someone you can ask and assist you during your study? So then this blog helps.

Let me share the skills and information I have to offer and that it may be rewarded to see you the excitement and sense of accomplishment that comes with learning.

Hand-Drawn blog offers aside from drawing and painting tips and techniques, instruction for anyone interested in drawing and painting, it also tackles everything related to art, e.g. tee shirt printing and techniques, modern and digital arts as well, ahhm,  let me say, general arts.

Have fun!
